Karl Chris- tian Krumpholz did an excellent job of cap- turing the street in all its weirdness. Lesley Lane Denver Very cool. Thanks for the memories and the perspective. I got here in ’87 and have witnessed a lot of those changes. Gary Bowline Arvada I grew up three blocks from Colfax; I have always loved it. This is a very fun read. Betty Young Bradley Thornton “LAST CALL?,” CONOR MCCORMICK- CAVANAGH, JANUARY 13 CLUB SCOUT S I’m 33, and I’ve seen the phases of Beta. It was once the club where we hopped fences and washed the black X off our hands because we were underage. Then the Triad Dragon days, when they ran the club but still had a hip-hop room, and the more recent hood club that it turned into. All have their great moments! Honestly, the club was probably the best one (unpopular opinion, in the majority of Denver culture). Furthermore, hood clubs never last in Denver! Cold Crush, Epernay, Dorchester, Beta, etc., all shot up, all closed. Jordan Michael Denver The people causing these issues will go somewhere else. Closing Beta does nothing to help the problem: just more misguided government overreach. Why isn’t the city liable for allowing criminals to hang out in the LoDo area? The city should be helping stop the problem. New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago and Miami have all gone through this and have learned how to better work with local busi- nesses to help lower these occurrences. Take a trip along Colfax with Karl Christian Krumpholz at westword. com/about/fl ipbooks. I liked it better when it was Cooper’stown, Alice Cooper’s pub. Mark Leiby Aurora And before that, Dick’s Last Resort. Paul Quigley Tucson Westword really has run out of news. All it reports on is Beta and COVID. Jonathan Centeno Denver “HOW DO I CONSUME WITH COVID?,” HERBERT FUEGO, JANUARY 13 TAKING THE CURE Go to a doctor and avoid Joe Rogan. Mitchell Taylor Sansone Lakewood My only advice as an everyday partaker is to think about the cottonmouth. As soon as I feel like I’m getting ill, I stop smoking completely. However, bring on the edibles — or “life savers,” as I call them. I’d rather be sick and high than sick and not. Erin McRad Walsenburg This must be satire, because I read on Twitter that people who smoke pot every day never get COVID. Karen Nogami Denver city, the answer is local government taking ownership of this responsibility as the city continues to grow. The city’s job is to ensure safety while doing everything it can to protect the diversity and continuation of minority- facing businesses through diffi cult times. Nick Smith Broomfi eld Beta was cool...ten years ago. Matt Callif Aurora I liked it better when it was RISE. Brad Jackson Thornton 9 MAKING THEIR MARK Denver’s tattooing community has been fi lled with characters as colorful as their art. But then came December 27.
