He was replaced by his fellow-countryman, Charles Girard. Denis Oswald (SUI), president of FISA since 1989, secretary- treasurer from 1977 to 1989. Born on May 9th, 1947, in Neuchatel (SUI). A doctor of Law, he studied at the universities of Neuchatel, Zurich and Cambridge. He is in practice at the Neuchatel Bar, of which he is president for the period 1990 - 1993. In 1977 he transferred smoothly from top- class competitive rowing to the administration of his favourite sport, upon his election as secretary-treasurer of FISA. For twelve years, he was president Keller’s right-hand man, at the head of both FISA and Swiss Timing. Among his list of rowing achievements are 13 Swiss sculling titles, five of which were in single sculls (1969, 1970, 1971, 1973 and 1975), three appearances in the Olympic Games (1968 - bronze medal in the coxed fours - 1972 and 1976).
