I’ve never truly thought of myself as a writer, not even now aaer having published a book. What I do know is that this book is a testament to the Lord working through an imperfect vessel for His glory. In my darkest moments, even the faintest glimmer of light would have meant everything. I pray this book becomes that light for someone else, shining hope into their darkness. Why did Why did you write this book? This This book began as a journal assignment from a counselor during my military-mandated abuse classes. At the me, I didn’t recognize my marriage as abusive because childhood abuse had made it feel normal. Journaling helped me begin to understand my past and sort through my emo ons. I con nued wri ng even aaer the class ended, but once I met my late husband, I set it aside. Aaer he was killed in the World Trade Center, I returned to it, it, overwhelmed by grief and in need of a way to process what I was living. I began typing out my handwriien entries and con nued the story, not just for myself but to create an honest record for our children, who were too young to remember him. Years later, aaer moving to Oklahoma, I tled and stored the manuscript away, believing it was finished. Then, during a life-changing encounter with Jesus in prayer, I clearly heard the Holy Spirit whisper, “Finish your book and publish.” Miraculously, I s ll had the only printed copy. As I retyped it, God began revealing deeper truths. I saw that He had been with me all along and that this story, while healing for me and informa ve for my child children, was ul mately meant to glorify Him. I realized that the “home” in the tle wasn’t a physical place. It was my return to Him. This book was wriien to help others find their way back to Him as well. Tell us something about yourself... Although I spent much of my life being abused, you probably wouldn’t have known it. In high school, my nickname was Smiley because I hid the pain so well. I concealed the abuse in my marriage so convincingly that the military had to give both my ex-husband and I a four-hour psychological evalua on just to determine who was telling the truth. Years later, aaer I remarried and my husband was killed in the World Trade Center, I received a financial s a financial seilement. From the outside, it appeared as though I had everything. But inside, I was struggling just to make it through each day. We never know what someone is going through beneath the surface. I was desperate for my inner world to match the peace others assumed I had. That only became possible through Jesus. He aligned the outside with the inside, replacing the mask with real healing. All glory to God. TANYA DAVIS Author Spotlight A powerful true story of trauma, loss, and redemppon.
