12 Cowett and Bassett: Street Tree Diversity in Three Northeastern U.S. States of New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania street trees among a relatively small number of species and genera, and in particular the dominance of maples (Acer spp.), which are vulnerable to the Asian long- horned beetle, there is a clear need in these states for greater species and genus diversity in state- wide and municipal street tree populations. While meaningful impediments exist to increasing diver- sity, especially in the short-term, it is a policy well worth pursuing at both state and municipal levels. Acknowledgements.
