RCM, so that a specific number of positions will be held constant, improving the physi- cal integrity of the cylinder. How many positions are reserved for in- dividual keys and how many are reserved for master keys is based upon the needs of the system, using simple math. If you are experienced in master keying to any degree other than an apprentice level, you should realize that the math involved typically either is a two-step with up to 10 possible depths, or it may be a single in- crement system which will typically have six possible cut depths. The former breaks down into a master key cut depth and four individual key cut depths for each position, while with the second, one of the depths is reserved for master keys and five are avail- able for individual keys. Thereaſter, everything in the system typi- cally breaks up into groups of four or groups of five, based on which it is from the two listed above. For this reason, standard SPF charts break up into groups of four for two increment drop (two step) or groups of five for single in- crement systems. Of course, there are always exceptions that do not offer as many possible depths, which changes the numbers, but these are the two most common situations. If a KBA has a master key cut and four possibilities for each position, everything will break up into groups of four. There will be four bittings per block, four blocks per column, four columns per page, four pages per group of pages, four groups of pages per section of the system, and four six-pin sys- tems in a seven-pin cylinder. If a KBA has a master key cut and five possibilities for each position, everything will break up into groups of five. There will be five bittings per block, five blocks per col- umn, five columns per page, five pages per Figure 1 group of pages, five groups of pages per sec- tion of the system, and five six-pin systems in a seven-pin cylinder. This means that if we were developing an LPP system, we would base the number of positions to progress on that number (four or five) and the number of individual keys needed. If we only needed four or less (five or less for single increment), we theoreti- C R R R R C R R R R C R R R R C Auto insurance that works for Discounts are available where state laws and regulations allow. 2 For qualifying customers only.
