APRIL 2016, DENVER, COLORADO, USA International Symposium on Seepage Control and Remediation DFI I ® Leaders from DFI and the United States Society on Dams (USSD) met at the USSD Annual Conference in San Diego in April for the first organizational meeting on the joint International Symposium on Seepage Control and Remediation. This collaboration stemmed from the ongoing effort by DFI’s Seepage Control Working Group to create a forum for discussion in the dam and levee industry related to seepage and foundation issues. The conference will be held in conjunction with the April 2016 USSD Annual Conference in Denver, Colo., and focus on connecting the international seepage remediation community. Presenters will share lessons in risk management from major dam and levee rehabilitation projects as well as new construction. The collaborative event will include government agency representatives, facility owners, regulators, researchers, designers, specialty contractors, consulting engineers and manufacturers, and suppliers in the international dam and levee industry. A large exhibition and tours of the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation research laboratory and local dams are included in the program. David Paul, lead civil engineer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Risk Management Center, will be the conference chair supported by Gianfranco Di Cicco (GDConsulting, DFI trustee), Elena Sossenkina (HDR, vice chair of USSD Levee Committee) and Mary Ellen Bruce (DFI technical activities manager).
