Jacobs Associates Construction Managers (JACM), a division of Jacobs Associates dedicated to its construction management practice, recently hired two new associates. John Critchfield, P.E., lead associate, is serving as resident engineer on the Alaska Way Viaduct Program project in Seat- tle. He has close to 40 years of experience and holds an M.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois- Urbana, and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the Uni- versity of Missouri-Rolla. Michael Kobler, senior associate, is serving as resident engineer on the Central Subway project team in San Francisco. He has more than 30 years of experience and holds a B.S. in Mining Engineering with a management option from the Montana School of Mines. Rick Deschamps, Ph.D., vice president of engineer- ing at Nicholson Construc- tion, was named the 2014 recipient of the American Society of Civil Engineers’ Wallace Hayward Baker Award. This award was established in 2000 by the Geo- Institute in recognition of the creative and innovative contributions of Wallace Hay- ward Baker in the field of ground modifi- cation. Deschamps received the award for his contributions to geotechnical engineer- ing. Throughout his career, Deschamps has designed innovative solutions for challenging geotechnical problems, advancing the state of practice in his field. David A. Schoenwolf, P.E., Lee R. James, CPA, CMC, CBI, and David R. Gaboury, P.E., (not pictured) were elected Fellows of ASFE / The Geoprofes- sional Business Associa- tion (GBA), a not-for-profit association of geoprofes- sional firms. Schoenwolf is a senior vice president/ principal consultant of Haley & Aldrich, Inc. He earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Illinois. James provides individualized services, including leadership develop- ment, project-management performance, ownership transition, software conver- sions, strategic planning, and training through his firm Lee James & Associates. Gaboury is the president, CEO and board chair of Terracon and has more than 30 years of experience. He earned his B.S. from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and M.S. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dywidag Systems International (DSI) is opening a new office and production facility for its unbonded monostrand post- tensioning systems in Miami, Fla. The new production facility will be fully operational in the summer of 2014. Dywidag unbonded monostrand post-tensioning systems are available with a wide range of corrosion protection solutions such as fully encapsulated systems for use in corrosive environments and in coastal areas. This allows the selection of the most suitable system to meet project speci f ic requirements. Langan Engineering & Environmental Services announced the opening of an office in downtown Akron, Ohio. The new office will provide fully-integrated technical services in support of the oil and gas industry focused on the Utica Shale play as well as land development projects and corporate real estate portfolios throughout the state. Langan senior principal, Gerard Coscia, who has more than 25 years of experience, will serve as principal-in-charge of the office. Leading Langan’s Akron office will be civil engineer Christopher Westbrook, P.E., geotechnical engineer David Vovak, P.E., and surveyor Anthony Maione, P.S. Kleinfelder was named No. 39 on Engineering News-Record’s (ENR) 2014 Top 500 Design Firm rankings, making it one of the most profitable employee-owned engineering, architecture, and science consulting firms in the U.S. The Top 500 Design Firm list, published annually by ENR, ranks the 500 largest privately and publically-held consulting firms based on dollars billed during the previous year. Kleinfelder’s architecture and civil design groups were also recognized by ENR, mov- ing up two places to rank No. 21 on ENR’s Top 100 Pure Designers list. The company nearly doubled the average growth on ENR’s Top 20 Hazardous Waste list, moving up three spots to No.13. Kleinfelder’s repu- tation for environmental design carried over to its offices in Australia and Canada, which produced over $22.2 million in revenue – a 37% increase from 2012. Following an extreme rainfall event in Pensacola, Fla., a home was nearly swept into the ocean after the torrential rainstorm swept through the Florida panhandle.
