12th International Workshop On Micropiles: Weeks Away The 12th International Workshop on Micropiles is being presented by the International Society for Micropiles (ISM) in alliance with ADSC and DFI on June 11-14, 2014 in Kraków, Poland. The 2.5- day workshop includes technical presentations on innovations and advancements in all aspects of micropile design, construction and use. Titan Poland is the host organization with Jakub Sierant serving as the local organizing lead, and Dan MacLean, chief operating officer of Con-Tech Systems Ltd., as the technical program chair. Highlights of the workshop: • Introduction of Lizzi Lecturer by Professor Fedele Lizzi, son of Dr. Fernando Lizzi, visionary leader of ISM and inventor of the pali radice (original root pile foundation system). • 8th Lizzi Lecture: “Micropile Life Cycle - Experiences in Mature Markets and Expectations for New Markets,” by Nadir Ansari, P.Eng., Isherwood Associates. • Presentation of the 6th Lizzi Scholarship to a graduate student conducting micropile research. • 1st World Cup of Micropiles Challenge, in which world regions showcase their most innovative micropile projects and delegates select the top project. • State-of-the-art presentations by micropile industry leaders covering innovations, design and load testing, case histories, slope stabilization, and foundation support. • Networking opportunities with micropile practitioners from around the world. A one-day short course on micropile design and construction will precede the workshop and be taught by ISM Steering Committee members, ISM delegates, specialists from the ADSC-DFI Joint Micropile Committee and local practitioners. Speakers will high- light local micropile projects, practices and considerations (a separate registration fee is required). The program includes a welcome reception and awards dinner for delegates and companions, a visit to Auschwitz (for companions), and a walking tour of historic Kraków and visit to the Wieliczka Salt Mine (for both delegates and companions).
