Such studies would benefit from a larger number of monitoring sites than has been typi- cally used in the past. This would allow for formal statistical testing of the relationship between tree density and local pollen levels. In addition, multi- year pollen monitoring in cities undergoing large urban tree planting campaigns could shed light on whether such campaigns change spatial patterns of tree pollen. Finally, spatial pollen measurements could be linked to epidemiologic studies to inves- tigate whether local pollen exposure influences the development or exacerbation of allergic disease.
