4 ¡Mucho éxito y felicidades! Graduation is a wonderful day to celebrate your academic and personal achievements at San Diego State University Imperial Valley. You, and all the people who have supported you throughout this journey, have so much to be proud of. Our faculty, staff, and leadership are delighted to celebrate with you this evening. There are so many exciting opportunities waiting for you. The degrees you have earned indicate you have what it takes to succeed as critical thinkers, writers, speakers, active listeners, and problem solvers. With empathy, compassion, and a critical understanding of our community and the world we live in, you have the skills and experiences to build on your potential, work with diverse teams, and lead wherever you go in the future. Graduation day is one of the most joyful days of the year for me, as it marks the culmination of so many efforts to contribute to your success. I am grateful to our distinguished faculty, staff, and leadership for their presence, participation, and dedication to your students. Individually and collectively, we have committed to serve our students by promoting higher education as the only four-year university right here in the Imperial Valley. Many of you will be the first in your families to graduate from a university, serving as role models for your siblings, cousins, and friends. Some of you are proud to follow in your family’s tradition of seeking a degree at SDSU because you have witnessed the transformative power of an education. Your SDSU diploma is a testament to your hard work, persistence, dedication, and perseverance. Display it proudly because you have earned it. As you embark on the next step of your journey, I ask you to motivate others to pursue their dreams and education. Share your story, your lessons learned, and your wisdom with family and friends so they too can follow in your steps. Let them know you are willing to serve as a pillar for them to lean on when and if they need your support. Trust that others have witnessed your journey and will be inspired by your success. Your presence at SDSU Imperial Valley has inspired us on campus to work diligently to become better professionals and human beings in providing educational opportunities to our students and our community. You leave a deep imprint on our campus through your presence and interactions with your peers, staff, faculty, and our leadership. Come back and pay it forward as an engaged alumnus, as a mentor, and as a future leader of our community. You did it! ¡Sí se pudo!
