aloa.org June 2024 Keynotes 17 SAFETECH Wrap-Up At the end of April, we had a great week at the Hyatt Regency Tulsa in Tulsa, OK, for the annual SAFETECH Convention. There, we held five days of classes, events and a trade show, and attendance was fantastic! Thank you so much to all our students, sponsors, instructors, volun- teers, board and staff for making this such a wonderful week. Thank you to our sponsors: American Security, Big Red, Bullseye, dormakaba, Lockmasters, Professional Business Products, Starfleet Lock & Safe and TMi. SAVTA members enjoyed five days of hands-on and classroom training from the industry’s best instructors. We had topics for beginners through advanced professionals, and we covered so many areas of the industry. Topics included electronic safe locks, basic and advanced safe opening, manipulation, safe deposit locks, time locks, spiking and more. This year, we added three evening seminars, all taught by SAVTA Board Member Dan Billheimer. Topics were Basic Dialing Diagnostics and Scoping the Change Keyhole. So many students wanted to attend beyond the class limit that several other SAFETECH instruc- tors, board members and others stepped in to assist with teaching! Thank you so much to those who volunteered to help and to the students. At the membership meeting, longtime board members Dave LaBarge and Joe Reustle stepped down, and Michael A. McElheney, CMST, CML, and Michael E. Metzger were elected. Associate Educa- tion Director John Hubel presented the Mark Miller ACE Instructor of the Year Award to Phillip Sutherland, and Wendy Angel of m3Magazines announced the Author of the Year Award as going to Bryan Kruysman for his contributions to Safe & Vault Technology. Congratu- lations to everyone!
