SAFETECH 2022 — Lets call this the “Return.” SAFETECH has been grounded from conventions for two years, whether by imposed travel re- strictions, host state or city restrictions and several other factors. SAFETECH 2022 will be a grand return to the ed- ucation and fellowship that has been sorely missed. And, oh yeah — a huge Friends of SAVTA Live Auction item to bid on… ALOA 2022 — This is the “Return to Vegas.” While ALOA 2021 was successfully held in Orlando, Vegas has always been very good to ALOA, and we expect nothing less this time. We are working on new classes and education tracks. IAIL — With a new board in place and a new year, plans are being made to bring back the IAIL weekend training session that has been very well received in Dallas in the past. We are looking at various venues around the country. AIL — We are looking to have more PRP testing specific to institutional lock- smiths, with a possibility of some manu- facturers and vendors offering training. And, by the time you read this, the ALOA Board will have met and discussed the formation of the new International Association of Automotive Locksmiths (IAAL). We are looking toward fall 2022 for a possible conference as well as hav- ing a large presence at ALOA 2022, with a plethora of new classes. While this has been on the agenda and discussed for a couple of years, we believe the evolution of the PRP testing from strictly a written exam to a blended exam of written and hands-on will be happening. This has been beta tested on a limited basis and worked well. So, while we can’t predict in October 2021 what will happen in December 2021 (and certainly not what will happen be- yond), ALOA is planning a return to the best version of “normal” possible. As the saying goes, “Good Lord willing and the creek don’t rise” (or in today’s environ- ment, I suppose “Spirit is willing and the cases don’t rise”), we truly hope to see each and every one of you at one of the events planned for 2022. Until then, ev- eryone remain safe, healthy and happy. Jim Hancock, CML, CMST, is ALOA’s educat ion manager. You can reach him at [email protected] or (214) 819-9733.
