WWW.ALOA.ORG DECEMBER 2022 KEYNOTES 25 INVESTIGATIVE SPOTLIGHT A reminder to IAIL members and the forensics community (and to those aspiring to learn this unique and valuable specialty, as well as those wishing to join the association of forensic locksmiths): One of the foremost pillars of IAIL — and ALOA itself — is education. Among all the great benefits of working in our industry, possibly the most satisfying is that there is always something more, new, fascinating and profitable to learn. IAIL embodies that. With its ties and obligations to the legal profession, forensics is a technical art with strict requirements to be successful. And, quite often, there can be a lot at stake in your work as a consul- tant or in the reports or testimony you are asked to provide. It is critical to your success and your client’s positive outcome to conform to those requirements for credible and admissible evidence. And, let’s not forget, you may well have an adversary on the other side whose sole job is to cast doubt on your find- ings by raising questions of credibility, expertise, methodol- ogy, chain of custody, oversights, omissions, errors or dubious conclusions. To be successful is to be prepared through IAIL training and certification. Toward that end, the IAIL Board will be working on a regu- lar program of educational webinars for 2023 that will be free to all IAIL members. They’ll be in the form of a 1-hour “lunch and learn” given by industry experts both inside and outside our association. The webinars will cover actual case studies that will give you the benefit of other’s experience — maybe even a Education Is Key Get Published!
