Student Grievance Policy The purpose of this policy is to provide a structured process for addressing and resolving non-academic student grievances. A grievance may be based on one or more of the following: • Policy or procedure applied unfairly or inconsistently • Failure to provide a service • Arbitrary and/or capricious actions from a College employee. Procedures Informal Resolution 1. A student is encouraged to discuss the problem with the involved College employee or unit lead of the area where the problem is occurring within 15 business days of when the problem occurred. Formal Grievance Submission 1. A student may submit a written, formal grievance to one of the following offices based on the concern: 1. Academic Concerns: 1. Provost’s Office through e-mail at [email protected] or a letter addressed to the Provost, 631 Howard Ave, Staten Island, NY, 10301. 2. Non-Academic Concerns 1. Dean of Campus Life Office through e-mail at [email protected] or a letter addressed to the Dean of Campus Life Office, 631 Howard Ave, Staten Island, NY, 10301. 3. The following details should be included: 1. Student’s name, Student ID number, Wagner College e-mail address, phone number 2. Description of grievance, including date(s), time(s), location(s) 3. Name(s) of individual(s) involved 4. Any previous attempts to resolve the grievance 5. Desired outcome of resolution 2. A representative from the office should acknowledge receipt of the grievance in writing within three business days. 3. The representative will review the situation and may meet with the student if necessary. Within 15 business days of receiving the complaint, the student will be informed of the outcome. If additional time for resolution is needed, the student will be notified. Appeals 1. If the student is not satisfied with the decision from the formal grievance process, the student may appeal in writing to the appropriate vice president, provost, or designee. 2. The appeal must be submitted within three business days of the transmission of the formal grievance decision along with stating the reason for appeal. Appeals are based on one of the following criteria: a. New information that was not available at the time of the review that would significantly alter the decision if the information were available at the time of the review. b. A significant procedural error that impacts the outcome of the review. 3. The appeal reviewer will have five business days to provide a written response- the decision is final.
