The town is the Gateway to Litchfield National Park with the best access road (sealed) to the park. Litchfield National Park has many attractions and you really need several days to appreciate the scenery and enjoy the waterfalls, plunge pools and walking trails. Favourite places include Wangi Falls, Cascade Falls, Florence Falls, Buley Rockhole and the weathered columns of the Lost City. The spectacular Florence Falls cascades into a plunge pool and the walking trail leads to panoramic views. Waterfalls flow all year as streams are spring fed. The magnetic termite mounds face north and south to minimise heat absorption. The Park is usually accessible all year but pools may be closed for swimming during the wet season because of the massive torrents of water rushing over waterfalls into pools below, but the view certainly compensates.
