The original ‘stone hut’ was built next to the Rocky River and later became a stopover for the mail coach. When the new town was surveyed, it took on the same name. Stone Hut’s heritage buildings are signposted on the heritage walk. The hall has facilities for travellers. Just north of town is a turnoff on the left into Wirrabara Forest.
