Participants will begin by getting a primer (or refresher) on some of the basic code requirements that are most often overlooked when security against aggressive threats is being discussed. After reviewing codes, this course will take a closer look at samples of the various styles of security devices developed to defend against active aggressors. Participants will have an opportunity to examine and handle samples of barricade devices and intruder locks that are currently on the market and discuss how they comply with, or violate codes. At the conclusion of this course, students will be able to identify fire doors and egress routes, define basic life safety and fire code vocabulary, and identify major and special functions of locks. The course will first discuss the training, practical exercises, reading, preparation of your CV and getting certified required by a forensic locksmith. Finally, information on court procedure, responsibilities and duties of expert witness will be included. Prerequisite: Perfect Raceway Installer Certification Want to install a code compliant raceway in an Intertek/WH labeled fire-rated door at the job site in compliance with NFPA 80? Want an alternative to field inspections or removing the door to have the raceway factory drilled? The Intertek program label can be applied for raceway installations done in the field for program participants. This is a personnel qualification program through Intertek for drilling a 3/8” diameter raceway across a fire-rated door. Class consists of PowerPoint lecture, practical hands-on drilling exercise followed by an examination. A score of 80% on the examination is required to participate in the program.
